Arturo Fuente Añejo was born of a hurricane. When Georges tore through Chateau de la Fuente in 1998 and left OpusX short of wrapper, Carlito Fuente re-blended the Opus core under a dark, toothy Connecticut Broadleaf maduro aged in cognac barrels — and created something that outgrew its own stopgap origins. The barrel aging gives it dark chocolate, molasses, anise and a genuine cognac sweetness over chewy Dominican spice. Released in allocated batches once or twice a year, usually near Father’s Day and Christmas, and gone almost immediately.
The Añejo Shark No. 77 — the box-pressed figurado in cognac-barrel-aged Broadleaf, and the most collected release in the line.
